I graduated from Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, California. I graduated from SWOSU in Weatherford, Oklahoma, awith a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading Specialties. I haven't stopped learning, though.
I am qualified to teach 1st thru 6th grades, all subjects, and 7th and 8th grade science.
A favorite workshop that I have attended was called KSAM. That workshop taught me to challenge myself as a teacher and challenge my students with activities that teach them how to solve problems. Jan Sands lead that workshop, and I consider her a role model.
In 1984, I started teaching a 1st/2nd grade combination class at a tiny school in Alfalfa, Oklahoma. This school has been closed, but my memories of those days are very treasured. In 1989, I began teaching 2nd - 5th grades at Washita Heights Elementary in Colony and Corn, Oklahoma. The elementary site at Colony was closed in 1993 and relocated to Corn. Washita Heights became my special home away from home. I continued to teach early elementary at WH until the school district was annexed with Cordell in the spring of 2010. My newest teaching journey began in August of 2010 and has led me to a 2nd grade classroom at Cordell Elementary. I spend my days with curious 7,8 and 9 years that have an abundance of energy.
Some of the other jobs I have done might surprise you. I have hung wallpaper, delivered the Daily Oklahoman, waitressed, worked as a switchboard operator for AT&T, and a switchboard operator for SWOSU, worked as a flagwoman and road press operator for ODOT, lab aide for the biology department of SWOSU and office assistant for a trucking company.
